Woman Grows Attached To A Stray Cat That Was Hiding A Major Surprise

As of 2018, there were an estimated 58 million stray cats in the United States. Many of them ended up on the streets after neglect, abandonment, or plain old bad luck when all they wanted was to be loved by a family. But for one Texas woman, the stray that showed up in her yard was just the tonic she needed to heal her grieving heart. First, she wanted to make sure the cat wasn't someone else's runaway, but she ended up learning that this kitty had a special secret.

Someone at the door

Erin Breean noticed a cat wandering around her yard. At first, the furry stranger only showed up a few times a week. Eventually, though, the visitor began making more frequent appearances.

Tentative beginnings

The cat kept a careful distance. It climbed on the steps of the porch and stared as she tried to coo him closer. From his lack of collar, she suspected he was a stray.

Baby steps

Slowly but surely, the kitty allowed Erin to scratch its exposed belly. If her hands wandered elsewhere, the cat reacted skittishly. Erin put food and water on the porch for her new friend in an attempt to gain his trust.

Growing attached

Treat bribes paid off. The cat let his guard down, following her around dutifully. Despite Erin's better judgment, she became smitten with the hefty kitten, whom she nicknamed Kevin. Before making a rash decision, she had to have him scanned for a microchip.
